Dear friend,
I have received news from England. An English Lord of Wiltshire died there recently. This one had a kind of admiration for pirates like you and me. He confided to whoever wanted to hear it that he would have dreamed of scouring the seas to seek that thrill of adventure and freedom. His son naturally inherited his title and his land. However, the latter sent an emissary to Nassau in charge of delivering a letter.
This letter is addressed to you. Not knowing where to find you, the emissary gave it to me. He seemed to know that you and me have very strong ties.
This emissary simply told me that the late Lord's son wanted to give you a chest. The story of your exploits as a treasure hunter gave his father incredible satisfaction. He would recreate for his own pleasure in his notebooks the different tricks you used to solve the most diverse cases. He found it amusing to put a few valuables in a safe and bury it in one of his properties. He wrote in a coded way, and in French, some documents indicating his location. His son, to thank you for having entertained his father so much, wishes to offer you this treasure, if you manage to locate it. He will welcome you there when you have deciphered everything. He also seems interested in knowing how you will go about it.
I am happy to see that the circle of your admirers is widening in such a beautiful way.
Your old friend,
Ben Gunn.
