Last year, His Majesty Louis XIV appointed a botanist to take stock of the richness of nature of the New World. He has acquired vital knowledge for the development of our settlements. Unfortunately our congregation has no news of him and we fear the worst. We found at the mission some documents that could put us on the trail of the precious manuscript he was writing, and eventually the herbarium he was to send to the King.
